Release Radar: Astrachan’s Ladkah
Featuring Chicago’s own, Ben Astrachan
Astrachan
Song Release: Ladkah
Astrachan, who put out the playful, ‘Ladkah’ on January 15th has taken on a new name to introduce their solo project. Ben Astrachan (pronounced Astra-can), of Berta Bigtoe and Astro Heart, is a one of a kind musician whose wavy tunes are almost immediately recognizable by their jolly melodies and full harmonies.
This video features Ben Astrachan, Jackie Smook, Austin Koenigstein, and many more Chicago favorites.
Channeling classic artists, Astrachan’s sound is reminiscent and nostalgic, capturing the eccentric energy of Harrisons’ “Within You Without You,” but also his raw and confrontational lyrics, relatable to “I Don’t Care Anymore.”
With that being said, with Astrachan’s lyric placement and melodic creations, he is truly not comparable. You’ll have to just give it a listen for yourself.
This light-hearted tune begins with a chorus of la-la’s and skyrocketing flutes, which I’m almost positive you’ll be singing for the rest of the day after a listen through, (Or maybe that’s just me- but this has been in my head for days).
My favorite section of the song is the melodic play at 1:38. Astrachan has no fear to explore every part of his voice, and every single note in the key he’s working in.
This song was tracked, recorded, and produced by Ben Astrachan (special help from some horn/flute fairies: aka Dan @danisapproves) and the talented Adam Thein. The complete debut album will premiere in May of 2021. In the meantime, listen to the rest of Astrachans compilation here. Don’t forget to check out Berta Bigtoe, and the Astro Heart (the love child of Stanely and Ben Astrachan).
