Noise Machine Repeater on Repeat
Connecticut’s heavy math-rock band The Refectory released their full-length album this past Thursday, September 16 through Choke Artist.
THE REFECTORY
Connecticut heavy math trio, THE REFECTORY, released their long-awaited album this past Thursday for listening exclusively on Bandcamp.
As a long-time refectory fan, seeing them through a change of drummers to Nicholas Restivo, Robbie Vozza and Jono DeCarlo has been a match made in [music] heaven. This album includes all of the fan favorites as well as additions that are new and full of nuance (ie. harmonies on Crickets/Water left the Dessert/end of Unhinged). It is great to hear Vozza’s voice at the forefront of this album. The raw heartfelt performance and lyric writing is present throughout the entire rock opera.
Favorite Moments
CRICKETS : 4:42 6:37
YOU AND I GREW UP THE SAME WAY
God Damn. The harmonies on this section are insane. Thick, haunting, and addicting.
STEP ASIDE FROM THE GUILLOTINE
Maybe it’s the way he says guillotine, but I love this repetitive anthem. It’s like a strobe light of pure raw emotion flashing in a dark room. (Much like a refectory light show….)
THE WATER LEFT THE DESSERT
WHOLE FUCKING SONG
UNHINGED 1:59
IN FRONT OF FOREVER 2:14
You can’t help but be in love with DeCarlos songwriting at this moment. These endless loops, unchanging, sound as if they are creeping closer to your core and at the end, you have no choice but to let the loop smother you.
Release Show
There release show was held at the Beeracks this past Thursday with bands Pulsr and Doom Beach.
Shout out to Brian DiCrescenzo for the incredible artwork. Love wrapping my brain around this idea. Kudos to Mr. Jonathan DeCarlo for recording this album at the studio, to Jay Maas for mixing and mastering, to Dave Alcan and Nick Cates for assisting in engineering.
