Womxn In Song
Mission Statement
"Womxn in Song creates a stage to amplify womxn's voices, backgrounds, and stories, through artistic connectivity and advocacy."
"Our mission is to “create a stage to amplify womxn's voices, backgrounds, and stories, through artistic connectivity and advocacy.” We are immensely appreciative of all those artists who are willing to perform during our mini series and share their talents with the community. However, this mission cannot be fulfilled as a white committee, with a draw of artists that are predominately white. Because of this, Womxn in Song is postponing the series to:
Reach out, listen to, and amplify more black womxn and womxn of color artists;
Cultivate an intersectional representation of womxn in the arts for any series we present;
Recruit an intersectional representation of the committee itself;
Educate ourselves and reflect upon our own white privilege through the works of Black writers, Black musicians, Black artists, and especially Black feminists;
Listen to activists/organizations with similar mission’s as ours to help inform our work; and
Continue to create a space that is conducive to the promotion of womxn’s inclusion that ensures sustained allyship.
We are still “calling for womxn artists” but with these intentions above, aiming to begin the mini series in August.
We are committed to learning and will continue to show up, dedicated to doing the work."
