RELEASE RADAR
Unschooling, Stephania, Flux Psyche & Deeper.
Unschooling
Made up of members from MNNQNS these math rock pros created “Unschooling.” The French band released a new track on October 30th, entitled “Twelve.” Twelve is an angular pop punk jam colored with raw, jittery melodies with an off-kilter vibe that grabs you and doesn’t let go until it’s finished. The frenetic energy is unreal, and the type of chaos I live for. Don’t Sneeze, I mean- sleep on their full release of this album which drops December 11th. Pre-Order it here.
FFO: Palm, Women, Preoccupations.
Boy
Stephanie Pourgouri, who goes by Stephània dropped her first single Boy on September 18th. I met Stephanie through mutual friends from my alma mater and was entranced by her jazzy and soulful voice. Stephanie is living in Boston currently, very far from her home in Cyprus.
I got to chat with Stephanie a little bit about her music.
Q: Who did you look up to as idols during your writing process?
A: “I heavily draw inspiration from R&B, Soul and Funk music and my favorite artists/bands are Michael Jackson, Earth Wind & Fire, Erykah Badu and Roy Ayers to name a few.”
Involved in the making of this soulful tune were: CARRTOONS (Ben Carr) who produced, mixed and mastered the song & Austin Leshock co-arranged and co-wrote the music of this track with Stephanie. Check out “Boy” now and leave your thoughts below.
Flux Psyche
Dream pop artist, Flux Psyche releases their full EP to all major platforms this Saturday on 11/21.
Nat, lead singer and writer, gave me a shoutout last week to give these tracks a listen and I had a very vibey morning doing so. The beginning of In Flux makes me feel like I am walking through a foggy film set of the beginning of an 80’s movie. If that’s your jam (why wouldn’t it be, eat your heart out Judd Nelson), check out this bandcamp release and hear it stream everywhere Saturday.
Artist recommendation: “See Me” which is about gender dysphoria & LGBQT+ love song, “Ocean Ocean.”
Drifting was produced and mixed by Flux Psyche, Rylan Sunseri and Mike Kloster (who also mastered the album).
FFO: Beach House
Deeper
Chicago based band, Deeper released an album in March…so I’m late. Whatever. This album rocks and it’s better late than never. Turn on Lake Song at around…9AM, and then don’t turn it off. Ever. You’re welcome.
I miss my apartment in Ravenswood my friends, and IO, but this may be my new favorite thing about Chicago.
If anyone want’s to get me their vinyl, its going fast & Christmas is right around the corner :)
If you or someone you know are dropping music soon, reach out. I’d love to hear it. Leave thoughts on these tracks, your feelings and song suggestions below. OH AND ! Take a deep breath. It’s all going to be okay.
thanks to my editor njr. you rock a lot.
